In this course, participants will learn:

  • The roles and responsibilities of various work site parties and their OHS obligations.
  • The key roles and responsibilities that an employer must understand and meet.
  • How to establish and support an HSC or HSR.
  • The expectations and duties of an HSC or HSR.
  • The importance of work site inspections, including what is required, how to prepare for and perform the inspection, and how to communicate the results.
  • The purpose and procedure of incident reporting and investigation.
  • The requirements for prevention of workplace violence and harassment.
  • The terminology of committee meetings.
  • The criteria for effective committee meetings.
  • How to maintain an effective Health & Safety
  • Program and measure its effectiveness.

Interactive learning activities throughout the course are designed to explore key concepts in more detail. 2 of these 9 activities must be completed to meet the requirements of the course and are included in the 3-hour duration.

This is a course requirement for AMHSA's: Municipal Health and Safety Committee Representative certification, Municipal Supervisor in Health and Safety certification, and Recognized Municipal Health and Safety Advisor certification. This is an optional course in AMHSA’s Municipal Manager in Health and Safety certification.
