Editable WorkSafeBC OHS Program Policies Template

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does this template include mandatory WorkSafeBC safety policies?
Yes. This customizable MS Word framework contains the core policy structures required under BC legislation, including workplace inspection mandates, incident reporting protocols, right to refuse unsafe work policies, and employee safety orientation rules.

Does my safety manual template need to be updated every year?
No. Your health and safety manual will only need to be updated if there has been a major ohs regulation change in your province - for a particular topic. Regulation changes do not happen as often as you may think. You may not see any major regulation changes for many-many years (10+ years). However, if for any reason there is a major regulation change in your province - and one of your manual policies will require an edit - our team will email you many months ahead to give you a heads up! We will send you the new regulation requirements and editing your manual will only take a few minutes.

Are your health and safety manual templates up to date with current provincial regulations?
Yes. All our current health and safety plan templates have been updated to meet with current provincial occupational health and safety regulations.

Why buy a professionally made safety manual instead of trying to create one myself?
Writing policies is the easy part. Knowing what should be included, how policies should be structured and whether important safety requirements have been overlooked requires knowledge of provincial occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory compliance across BC, Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI. Our safety manual templates are professionally developed by designated and qualified Occupational Health & Safety Consultants and Advisors with over 30 years of knowledge in provincial OHS legislation across Canada and workplace safety requirements. They include the essential policies, procedures and supporting forms employers need to establish a professional and legal safety program. Your safety manual may also be examined following a workplace incident or during a regulatory officer inspection, contractor or prime contractor review, prequalification process, insurance review or legal proceeding. Starting with professionally developed documentation provides a much stronger foundation than attempting to assemble an important compliance document from scratch yourself.

Extremely important. A safety manual isn't simply paperwork kept on a shelf. It documents the policies, responsibilities and procedures your company has established to manage workplace health and safety according to provincial OHS legal requirements. Following a serious workplace incident, those documents may be scrutinized by regulators, investigators, contractors, prime contractors, insurers or legal professionals. They may also be requested when qualifying for projects or demonstrating your company's safety program to a client.

What is the difference between the human resources, general industry I, II and the construction safety manual template?
Our General industry safety plan, is specifically designed for any industry/business in your province which is NOT construction related. General Industry Template I is ideal for businesses with less than 20 employees. General Industry Template II is ideal for businesses with 20 or more employees. Our Construction industry safety plan is specifically designed for construction related businesses in your province for either small to large businesses. Our HR manual has been specifically designed for any business across Canada who is looking to develop employment labour standards policies for their employees.

What are the benefits of purchasing a health and safety manual for my business?
There are many benefits of ensuring a proper health and safety program is implemented within your business, such as:

1. It is the law across every province in Canada. Every business in Canada is required by legislated LAW, in each province, to have a written occupational health and safety manual in place. Failure to comply with provincial safety regulations in any province, can result in very expensive and hefty fines, penalties, sanctions and stop work orders by local government safety officers.
2. A written health and safety program can provide tremendous benefits during your contract bids. Large contractors will require smaller sub-contractors to have a written health and safety program in place. In fact, sub-contractors who have a OHS program in place are usually on top of the selection list with large contractors. Consider your purchase a wise investment!
3. A written health and safety program will also assist in reducing or eliminating minor to serious injuries, sickness, or even death, in the workplace. This program will also be your protection and due diligence in court, if ever required. Remember, it's better to have something in place, rather than nothing! And most importantly, your employees will feel cared for and protected from risks in the workplace which in return will ensure a more positive work environment along with increased production.

Can I request to add more policies or procedures to your templates made specific to my type of business?
