In Alberta, Canada, the labor laws sets standards for employee payment compensation. All businesses in Alberta, whether you are an existing business or a new business, must have written human resource program in place. Most small to medium size businesses in Alberta do not have an HR professional working for them or HR professionals may not have the time to develop every policy from scratch, and as a result of this, developing written human resource policies can sometimes seem like a daunting task. That is why OHS Safety Manuals Canada has developed a human resource program template in the form of two options for your business. Our legal team along with our experienced HR Consultants have carefully developed the content of these HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with Alberta Employment Standards. You simply purchase your HR program template sample below and an MS WORD copy of the manual will be automatically forwarded to your provided email address. From there, all you have to do is insert your company logo and company name into the program (instructions are provided on how to do so). We have developed human resource policies for you which all businesses in Alberta must have as a minimum requirement. You can utilize this human resource policies manual as is for your business or you can edit the document at anytime to further meet the needs of your business.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does my HR or safety manual template need to be updated every year?
No. Your HR or health and safety manual will only need to be updated if there has been a major ohs regulation change in your province - for a particular topic. Regulation changes do not happen as often as you may think. You may not see any major regulation changes for many-many years (10+ years). However, if for any reason there is a major regulation change in your province - and one of your manual policies will require an edit - our team will email you many months ahead to give you a heads up! We will send you the new regulation requirements and editing your manual will only take a few minutes.

Are your HR & health and safety manual templates up to date with current provincial regulations?
Yes. All our current health and safety plan templates have been updated to meet with current provincial occupational health and safety regulations and our HR manuals have been updated to meet with current provincial employment standards.

Why buy a professionally made employee handbook or safety manual instead of trying to create one myself?
Writing policies is the easy part. Knowing what should be included, how policies should be structured and whether important safety requirements have been overlooked requires knowledge of provincial employment standards and occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory compliance across BC, Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI. Our employee handbook and safety manual templates are professionally developed by designated and qualified HR Consultants, Occupational Health & Safety Consultants and Advisors with over 30 years of knowledge in provincial employment standards and OHS legislation across Canada and workplace safety requirements. They include the essential policies, procedures and supporting forms employers need to establish a professional and legal safety program. Your safety manual may also be examined following a workplace incident or during a regulatory officer inspection, contractor or prime contractor review, prequalification process, insurance review or legal proceeding. Starting with professionally developed documentation provides a much stronger foundation than attempting to assemble an important compliance document from scratch yourself.

Extremely important. A safety manual isn't simply paperwork kept on a shelf. It documents the policies, responsibilities and procedures your company has established to manage workplace health and safety according to provincial OHS legal requirements. Following a serious workplace incident, those documents may be scrutinized by regulators, investigators, contractors, prime contractors, insurers or legal professionals. They may also be requested when qualifying for projects or demonstrating your company's safety program to a client.

What is the difference between the human resources, general industry I, II and the construction safety manual template?
Our General industry safety plan, is specifically designed for any industry/business in your province which is NOT construction related. General Industry Template I is ideal for businesses with less than 20 employees. General Industry Template II is ideal for businesses with 20 or more employees. Our Construction industry safety plan is specifically designed for construction related businesses in your province for either small to large businesses. Our HR manual has been specifically designed for any business across Canada who is looking to develop employment labour standards policies for their employees.

What are the benefits of purchasing a health and safety manual for my business?
There are many benefits of ensuring a proper health and safety program is implemented within your business, such as:

  1. It is the law across every province in Canada. Every business in Canada is required by legislated LAW, in each province, to have a written occupational health and safety manual in place. Failure to comply with provincial safety regulations in any province, can result in very expensive and hefty fines, penalties, sanctions and stop work orders by local government safety officers.
  2. A written health and safety program can provide tremendous benefits during your contract bids. Large contractors will require smaller sub-contractors to have a written health and safety program in place. In fact, sub-contractors who have a OHS program in place are usually on top of the selection list with large contractors. Consider your purchase a wise investment!
  3. A written health and safety program will also assist in reducing or eliminating minor to serious injuries, sickness, or even death, in the workplace. This program will also be your protection and due diligence in court, if ever required. Remember, it's better to have something in place, rather than nothing! And most importantly, your employees will feel cared for and protected from risks in the workplace which in return will ensure a more positive work environment along with increased production.

Can I request to add more policies or procedures to your templates made specific to my type of business?
Yes you can! Our HR or safety manual templates have been developed to meet with the minimum legal requirements for each province which all businesses must follow. However, we can add additional safety and health policies to our templates which can be developed, by one of our consultants, to be made specific to your business tasks. The cost for additional policies or procedures are as follows. Payment for the upgrade of our templates must be made prior to the actual upgrade. The upgrade itself will take anywhere from 3 to 5 business day to complete. A copy of your upgraded health and safety manual template will be emailed to you in MS Word and PDF format upon completion. We will also add in your company logo and company into the program for you.

How can I purchase one of your HR or safety manual templates?
It's very easy. Scroll down the webpage you are looking to purchase the safety template from and click on the BUY NOW button FOR YOUR PROVINCE. Once you place your purchase an MS WORD format copy of the manual including forms will automatically be sent to your email address. From there all you need to do is add in your company LOGO and company NAME into the program (instructions are provided or you can email us with your logo and company name and we will happily do it for you). Ensure you spell your email correctly when placing your order. If for any reason upon purchase you do not see the templates in your email inbox (please also check your spam folder), no problem, just contact us and we will immediately email you a copy.

Can I edit my HR or safety manual template?
Yes, You can! Upon successful purchase you will receive your safety manual template in MS WORD format, which means you can edit your document at anytime. The table of contents is also automatically adjustable.

Will you insert my logo and company name into the template for me?
Yes, we will! After you place your purchase, please email us ([email protected]) with your order number, logo and company name. One of our staff will happily develop this for you and email you your completed safety manual within 1 to 2 business days.

What if your HR or safety manual template has a policy in it that does not apply to my business, can your template still work for my business?
Absolutely! If for any reason our template has a policy within it that does not apply to your business, simply delete it from your manual. Once you have deleted the policy, simply update your table of contents (we have provided you with instructions on how to do so).

What is included with my template upon purchase?
Each safety program template we offer has been developed in accordance with each province's health and safety regulations across Canada. So for example, if you purchase the BC safety manual template then that template has been designed to meet with BC provincial occupational health and safety regulations. If you purchase the Ontario safety manual template then that template has been designed to meet with Ontario occupational health and safety regulations, and so on for each particular province. You will receive your safety program manual template including safety forms in MS WORD .doc format; which means you can make edits, changes or additions to your program at anytime. You will receive customization instructions in PDF format which will clearly outline how to insert your company logo to each page, how to change your title page picture and how to insert your company name into the entire document in just a few clicks of a button (YOU DO NOT NEED TO MANUALLY INSERT YOUR COMPANY NAME PAGE BY PAGE) - our instructions will outline how to do this for the entire document; very quickly.

Are your HR and health and safety programs / manuals recognized in the industry?
Absolutely. Our written human resources and occupational health and safety manuals have been developed by certified and professional health and safety consultants with a combined experience in occupational health and safety of over 60 years.  Our health and safety programs, manuals, policies and procedures are recognized across each province by federal, provincial, municipal, and private organizations and individuals.
